Carl had been a member of the band EDGE since 2001. His melodic and dynamic bass lines were imperative in shaping the sound of the band. Carl had a great drive for music and it was indicated through his unparalleled dedication to his fellow musician. His death was a sudden shock to us. We miss him dearly. He entered our lives as a band member and left as a family member. He is irreplaceable and our music will not be the same without him. Carl is forever EDGE.
We have always appreciated great music from all different artist. Tears for Fears has made an huge impact on our musical journey. We decided to cover "Everybody Wants to Rule the World" to challenge ourselves. We hope we did it justice. Song is now streaming on all major platforms.

EDGE was formed in 1996 by guitarist Nolan J. Vander Haagen, drummer Alex Serrano, and bassist Brooks Gage in Pearland, Texas. As teenagers, their sound was cultivated by rage and youthful ignorance. Within a few years and only a few shows, EDGE released their first album Criticize. The band continued performing across Houston and other Texas cities, gaining local momentum. During that period, EDGE participated in numerous local and national competitions, earning third place in the nationwide Big Break Music Festival held in Grand Junction, Colorado. Around the same time, Vander Haagen recorded guitar for Ice Cube and received a platinum plaque for his contributions.
In 1999, EDGE added a fourth member and lead guitarist, Tommy M. Lee, whose virtuoso technique gave the band a progressive twist. In 2001, Carl Beatty joined the lineup, adding his own passion and style to the band’s evolving sound. In 2003, EDGE returned to the studio to record their second full-length album, As She Runs. With the success of their second album, the band took a short break to explore other musical ventures.
EDGE regrouped in 2004 with the addition of Tommy Vanos, whose heart for rock helped steer the band’s sound back to its roots. In 2006, EDGE released the album Fight. The following year, eccentric guitarist Caveh Masum—of Greek and Persian heritage—joined the lineup. EDGE returned to the studio to work on their fourth full-length album, Venus in Furs, which was released in late summer of 2008. Several tracks from the album were featured in the video game Rock Band, and the final track, “Metamorphosis,” was included in the motion picture Flashes.
In 2013, the band took a break from music to pursue other ventures. In 2019, Vander Haagen completed an acoustic rock project named Buddastahn, inviting Serrano to record the drums. The project released three songs.
After reconnecting in 2022, EDGE decided to record a new album with members Vanos, Beatty, Serrano, and Vander Haagen. They brought in longtime friend Rob Ceez to co-produce and contribute to the recording. The album, titled Latency Vol. I, was released in 2024. The band also released several music videos for songs off the album, showcasing their evolution and renewed energy.
In October 2024, EDGE was struck by tragedy when longtime bassist and beloved bandmate Carl Beatty passed away unexpectedly. His presence, musicianship, and friendship were foundational to the band’s identity. EDGE has since dedicated their musical journey—past, present, and future—to Carl's memory and legacy.
EDGE is currently working on new music and preparing for the next chapter in their journey.
The band has shared the stage with acts such as Fuel, Hoobastank, Flyleaf, Earshot, Pressure 4-5, Pushmonkey, Blue October, and The Hunger.
